General Duties
To assist the principal in promoting learning and providing high quality administration and leadership for Norwell Middle School, particularly with student issues, safety, special education, and general administrative support.
Reports To
Norwell Middle School Principal
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree or higher in educational administration or related field
- Preference given to candidate holding a current Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education license as a middle school principal/assistant principal
- Five or more years of successful classroom teaching experience, preferably at the middle school level required, and at least three years of successful experience in school administration or related field desired
- Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, educational experience, school-level involvement and/or system-wide professional activities, and the interview process
Responsibilities
- Assist the Principal in establishing and maintaining a safe and secure environment and an effective learning climate within Norwell Middle School
- Assist the Principal in all matters related to students and their success in school
- Maintain high standards of student conduct and attendance, and enforce discipline as necessary
- Coordinate student scheduling and student placement
- Evaluate teachers and support staff as directed by the Principal
- Serve as special education team chair for all initial and reevaluation determinations and support staff in the implementation of IEPs
- Develop and oversee the Norwell Public Schools Extended School Year Programs in collaboration with other administrators, and ensure appropriate staffing
- Supervise and support teacher teams and programs as assigned by the Principal
- Supervise, revise, produce, and distribute student and teacher handbooks
- Assist with the selection and induction of new staff, providing mentoring and support as needed
- Assist Principal with regular communication to the Middle School community
- Assist in the daily scheduling of substitute teachers
- Assist in the management and preparation of the school budget
- Supervise and enforce issues related to student transportation as they occur
- Plan, organize and coordinate school assembly programs
- Review, revise, and direct school safety and security procedures, protocols, inspections, and drills
- Work with parent, faculty and/or student groups, as requested, to advance educational objectives, and establish, maintain, and promote positive relationships with staff, students, parents, and the community
- Plan, organize, coordinate, and supervise MCAS testing administration in conjunction with the Principal
- Supervise, direct, attend, and promote designated co-curricular, extracurricular, and after hours activities, and coordinate and maintain master activity calendar
- Prepare school reports for the central office and state Department of Education as directed
- Serve as a resource for staff development and training
- Serve as Principal in the absence of the Principal
- Perform such other duties or assistance as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or designee

Terms Of Employment
- This is a 12-month administrative position; individuals lacking all the necessary qualifications may be considered for an interim position
- Salary range: $115,000 to $130,000 (pro rata), depending on qualifications and experience
- Benefits as established for all administrative positions
