Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning

We are seeking an exceptional Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning to join our Senior Leadership Team and take strategic responsibility for securing consistently high quality teaching and learning across the school.

You will lead the development, implementation and evaluation of our Teaching and Learning strategy, ensuring that evidence informed classroom practice, curriculum delivery, assessment and professional development lead to strong outcomes for all students. Working closely with senior, middle and subject leaders, you will develop the quality of classroom practice, identify areas for improvement and build the capacity of teachers and leaders to deliver consistently excellent teaching.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the school's Teaching and Learning strategy, ensuring priorities are clearly understood, consistently implemented and have demonstrable impact on classroom practice and student outcomes.
  • Provide strategic leadership and challenge to middle and subject leaders, supporting them to improve the quality of teaching within their areas.
  • Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-informed approaches to teaching and learning across the school.
  • Develop a clear, evidence-informed model of effective teaching.
  • Lead or oversee high-quality professional development, ensuring CPD responds to identified areas of need and results in measurable improvements in classroom practice.
  • Develop a culture of instructional coaching, professional dialogue and deliberate practice that enables teachers at all career stages to continually improve.
  • Lead a rigorous and proportionate quality assurance programme, identifying strengths and priorities for improvement.
  • Work with curriculum and subject leaders to ensure assessment practices are purposeful, consistent and used effectively to inform teaching and improve student progress.
  • Analyse student progress and staff performance data to identify strengths and areas for development and inform targeted improvement activity.

What We Are Looking For

  • A strong classroom practitioner with a proven track record of achieving excellent progress and outcomes for all students.
  • Successful experience as a middle leader, with a track record of initiating and delivering school improvement.
  • The ability to lead and secure measurable improvements in Teaching and Learning across a department, phase or whole-school context.
  • Strong instructional leadership and the ability to develop others through high expectations, clear goals, coaching and appropriate challenge.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and influence a range of stakeholders.
  • A collaborative, reflective and analytical approach to leadership.
  • A degree, PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status.

About Lift New Rickstones

Lift New Rickstones is graded ‘Good' (November 2023) and has a state of the art building offering fantastic facilities for both students and staff. Over the last 8 years the school has seen a huge increase in student numbers, with the number of students on roll more than doubling. The school is a popular choice in the local area, is oversubscribed, and has added another new building to meet this demand.
