Assistant Producer (Current Affairs)

Reporting to: Chief Content Officer


Working Hours

  • Full-time: 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday
  • Flexibility required to cover weekends, bank holidays, and additional hours

Salary

Competitive, based on skills, knowledge, and experience

About the Role

We’re seeking a talented and experienced Producer passionate about creating inspiring, high-quality Current Affairs and News content for a Muslim UK and global audience.

While the primary focus is Current Affairs and News, this role may also cover:

  • Religion (strong knowledge of Islam essential)
  • Lifestyle
  • Factual and Documentaries

Key Responsibilities

Content Development & Production

  • Develop and produce engaging, high-quality content—programmes, series, and podcasts—across platforms, from concept to delivery
  • Ensure projects align with the company’s vision, budget, and timeline
  • Responsible for research, pitching, scripting, and securing guests/panelists (e.g., via email, telephone, or social media)

Current Affairs & Social Media

  • Create Current Affairs content for Islam Channel’s social media platforms

On and Off-Camera Work

  • Conduct location shoots (desirable: ability to present Current Affairs shows)
  • Strong advantage if able to self-film and edit

Pre-Production & Planning

  • Lead kick-off meetings with stakeholders
  • Brief team and crew, organise shoots, and liaise with Studio Managers/crew for studio bookings and setups
  • Facilitate training for volunteers, interns, researchers, and presenters

Studio Management & Logistics

  • Oversee shoots (location or studio) ensuring appropriate, safe, and presentable environments
  • Maintain high quality in audio, lighting, and visuals
  • Review and approve invoices, expense claims, and purchase orders
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure health and safety compliance on all shoots

Collaboration & Compliance

  • Work closely with line managers to align objectives with broadcast strategy
  • Adhere to Ofcom guidelines and the company’s editorial policy
  • Achieve all necessary bookings, approvals, and clearances before scheduling shoots

Skills & Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Strong passion for delivering compelling Current Affairs coverage
  • Experience with complex productions (managing stakeholders, crew, and freelancers)
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Project planning expertise
  • Ability to create and manage productions within budgets
  • Experience with DSLR filming
  • Proficiency in filming and presenting on camera (for relevant shows)

Technical Proficiency (Adobe Creative Suite)

  • Must be proficient in:
    • Premiere Pro
    • After Effects

Education & Experience

  • Essential: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Ideal: 3+ years in broadcast television, with experience in:
    • Producing and covering Current Affairs/News
    • Delivering original high-quality programmes
