About The Role

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding bioinformatician with expertise at the interface of biological data science, genomics, and artificial intelligence (AI) to contribute to both research and undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within our vibrant and interdisciplinary Department of Biochemistry and Biomedicine.

In education, you will contribute to the delivery and assessment of taught provision through lectures, workshops, and computational practical classes with an emphasis on modern, data‑intensive, biological analysis design and supervise assessed computer‑based practicals and projects, supporting training in programming, data analysis, and the use of high‑performance computing (HPC) resources. You will contribute to innovative and inclusive curriculum development at the interface of biology and data science.

In research, you will develop an independent or collaborative research programme in bioinformatics, computational biology, or AI‑driven bioscience research. You will publish in high‑quality peer‑reviewed journals, seek external research funding, engage in collaborative initiatives, and supervise research students.

About You

Candidates should hold a PhD. A strong motivation to educate and inspire students using a variety of teaching and assessment approaches is essential. You will have a rigorous, enthusiastic and collegiate approach to all aspects of student education, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to use technology effectively and innovatively.

About Our School

In the School of Life Sciences we strive to understand the mechanisms that drive biological and chemical processes and to develop innovative and diverse approaches to enhance human health, technology and the environment. We undertake multidisciplinary research, teaching and engagement across a wide range of subjects, from Chemistry through Cellular and Molecular Biosciences to Conservation Biology.

The School comprises five Departments: Biochemistry & Biomedicine, Genome Damage and Stability Centre, Neuroscience, Ecology & Evolution and Chemistry. We also house the Sussex Drug Discovery Centre which works to deliver the bench-to-bedside translation of our discoveries.
