Assistant Professorship in Islamic Philosophy
The Faculty of Divinity wishes to appoint to an Assistant Professorship in Islamic Philosophy from 1 September 2027. The postholder will be based in the Faculty of Divinity, West Road, Cambridge.
About the Role
Applicants should have a doctorate in Islamic Philosophy and either a proven track record of, or demonstrable potential for high quality research and publications in any aspect of Medieval Islamic Philosophy. The successful candidate will be required to teach on the Undergraduate Tripos, Advanced Diploma and the MPhil, as well as to supervise doctoral students and to undertake administrative duties within the Faculty.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver around 40-48 lecture-room contact hours of teaching across the three terms of the academic year
- Contribute to teaching in part II of the 'Tripos' (i.e. the second and third years of the BA Hons programme), including some teaching in Qur'anic Arabic
- Teach at least one module for the MPhil
- Share responsibility for designing and delivering the Faculty's teaching in the field of Islamic Studies
- Undertake College teaching for additional remuneration

- A statement of research plans of no more than two sides of A4
- An outline of a course of 8 lectures introducing second-year undergraduates to key themes in medieval Islamic philosophy or Philosophical theology (no more than 4 sides A4)
- A sample of published or completed research (journal article, chapter from book or dissertation) of no more than around 8000 words
