About Gap Construction

Gap Construction are proud to be recruiting on behalf of our client, a well established and growing main contractor, for an Assistant Project Manager to join their team based in Colchester.

Operating across the commercial, education, healthcare, industrial and public sectors, our client has built an excellent reputation for delivering high quality construction projects throughout the East of England. Due to continued growth and a healthy order book, they are looking to appoint an ambitious Assistant Project Manager who is eager to develop their career within a supportive and progressive environment.

Role Overview

Working closely with experienced Project Managers, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of projects from pre-construction through to completion, gaining exposure to every stage of the construction process.

Performance Objectives

  • Assist Project Managers with the day to day delivery of multiple construction projects.
  • Support the planning, programming and coordination of site activities to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
  • Attend client, subcontractor and site meetings, producing accurate minutes and action trackers.
  • Monitor project progress, identifying potential risks and assisting with problem solving.
  • Help manage subcontractor performance, programme compliance and quality standards.
  • Assist with procurement activities, material scheduling and project documentation.
  • Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed and maintained across projects.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
  • Support project reporting, including cost tracking, programme updates and progress reports.

Person Specification

  • Previous experience within a construction environment, ideally as an Assistant Project Manager, Site Engineer, Assistant Site Manager or similar.
  • HNC/HND or Degree qualified in Construction Management, Building, Civil Engineering or a related discipline is desirable.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commercial awareness with a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Competent using Microsoft Office packages.
  • Full UK driving licence.
