Assistant Project Manager

The purpose of the Assistant Project Manager role is to support the successful delivery of Group Metropolitan’s mechanical projects from pre-construction through to completion and handover. Working closely with the Project Manager and wider project team, the role will assist with the coordination of site activities, subcontractors, suppliers, programme, quality, health & safety and commercial requirements.

The Assistant Project Manager will take responsibility for defined elements of project delivery, helping to ensure works are planned, coordinated and completed safely, efficiently and to the high standards expected by Group Metropolitan and our clients. The role also provides an opportunity to develop practical project management experience and technical knowledge, with increasing levels of responsibility as competence and experience develop.

Requirements

  • Previous experience within an Assistant Project Manager, Project Engineer, Site Management or similar project delivery role within the mechanical/building services sector.
  • Practical knowledge of mechanical building services and infrastructure, ideally within critical environments, commercial fit-out or data centre projects.
  • Good understanding of the construction project lifecycle, from pre-construction and mobilisation through to commissioning, handover and close-out.
  • Working knowledge of health & safety requirements within a construction environment.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, programmes and other project documentation.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors, suppliers and site-based activities.
  • Good commercial awareness, with an understanding of project costs, variations and budget tracking.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build effective working relationships with clients, colleagues, subcontractors and the wider supply chain.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office and comfortable using construction/project management systems and software.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving, with the confidence to identify and escalate project risks or issues where required.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider project team.
  • Willingness to travel to Group Metropolitan project locations and client sites as required.
  • Relevant construction or building services qualification desirable but not essential, with consideration given to candidates who can demonstrate suitable practical experience.
  • Relevant site-based certifications, such as CSCS and SSSTS/SMSTS.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
