Building Safety Team
We are looking for an Assistant Project Manager to join Sheffield City Council’s Building Safety & Compliance service.
This role will support the delivery of projects and programmes that help ensure council homes remain safe, compliant and well managed. Working within a busy project environment, you will provide project support, information management and performance reporting across a range of Compliance activities.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with data, information and insight, and wants to use those skills to support the successful delivery of projects and programmes.
You will support Project Managers and the wider Compliance function by:
- Coordinating project information, records and reporting activities.
- Producing and maintaining project schedules, risk information, performance reports and management information.
- Supporting the monitoring of project costs, progress, risks and key milestones.
- Analysing performance information and helping identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Maintaining accurate project records and ensuring information is up to date and accessible.
- Supporting stakeholder communications and helping maintain effective relationships with colleagues, contractors, and partners.
- Assisting with audit, governance, procurement, and contract administration activities.
A significant part of the role will involve working with information and data to support decision-making. You will help develop reports, track programme performance and ensure that managers have access to accurate and timely information. The ability to organise, interpret and present information clearly is therefore just as important as project management skills.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
