We Are Seeking an Assistant Project Manager (Minor Works)
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Assistant Project Manager (Minor Works) to join our Estates Development team and support the delivery of a varied programme of refurbishment, maintenance and Statutory Compliance projects across the University's estate.
This is an exciting opportunity for an estates, construction or building professional who enjoys managing projects within a complex operational environment and who is committed to delivering high-quality facilities that enhance the student and staff experience.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Maintenance and Infrastructure, you will take responsibility for managing and delivering a portfolio of minor capital and revenue-funded projects from inception through to completion.
You will act as a key interface between academic and professional service departments, external consultants, contractors and other stakeholders, ensuring that projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on programme and within approved budgets.

Projects may include:
- Teaching space refurbishments.
- Laboratory and specialist facility alterations.
- Accessibility improvements.
- Office and workplace transformations.
- Building fabric and infrastructure upgrades.
- Sustainability and decarbonisation initiatives.
- Student-facing environment improvements.
- Fire safety and other statutory compliance schemes of work
- Management of estate wide service contracts, including signage and asbestos management.
You will also play an important role in ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, University policies and industry best practice throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and deliver minor works projects from conception to completion.
- Develop project briefs, specifications, programmes and cost estimates.
- Procure consultants and contractors in accordance with University procurement procedures.
- Administer contracts and monitor contractor performance.
- Manage project budgets and provide accurate financial reporting.
- Lead contract review meetings and provide regular progress updates to stakeholders.
- Undertake site inspections and monitor quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and relevant health and safety legislation.
- Support the achievement of University sustainability and environmental objectives.
- Maintain comprehensive project records and documentation.
- Contribute to strategic estate initiatives and continuous improvement activities.
- Develop effective working relationships across the University community and external partners.

About You
You will be an organised and solutions-focused professional with experience of delivering refurbishment, maintenance or construction projects within a complex estate environment.
You will possess excellent communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a strong focus on customer service, quality and health and safety.
