About the role
Pennygate Development is a growing construction and property business based in Leeds.
We are looking for an ambitious Assistant Project Manager to join our team and work closely with the Director across a range of construction projects and property developments.
This is not simply an administrative project-coordination role. We are looking for someone with a solid construction background who wants to develop into a Project Manager and take genuine ownership of projects.
The successful candidate will initially work closely with the Director, learning how we manage projects commercially and operationally, with a clear pathway towards becoming a Project Manager within approximately 12 months, subject to performance and development.
What you’ll be working on
Pennygate currently has a number of projects and opportunities across residential construction, care, property refurbishment and development.
Your role will initially involve supporting the Director and wider team with:
- Project planning and programme management
- Procurement and subcontractor coordination
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and construction information
- Obtaining and comparing quotations
- Coordinating design teams and consultants
- Managing RFIs and technical queries
- Monitoring project progress and quality
- Assisting with valuations, variations and cost control
- Attending site and project meetings
- Preparing project updates and reports
- Coordinating subcontractors and suppliers
- Client communication
- Snagging, handover and completion
- Maintaining project trackers and documentation

About you
We’re looking for someone who is ambitious, commercially aware and wants to build a career in construction project management.
You may currently be working as a:
- Assistant Site Manager
- Assistant Project Manager
- Site Manager on smaller projects
- Construction Project Coordinator
- Contracts Assistant
- Quantity Surveyor looking to move towards project management
- Construction professional ready for their next step
We are less concerned about your exact job title and more interested in whether you have the ability, attitude and ambition to progress.
You should have:
- Several years’ experience within the construction industry
- A good understanding of construction processes and sequencing
- The ability to read and understand drawings
- Experience working with subcontractors and suppliers
- Good organisational and communication skills
- Commercial awareness
- Strong attention to detail
- Confidence dealing with clients, consultants and contractors
- A proactive approach to solving problems
- A genuine desire to progress into project management

Relevant construction qualifications would be beneficial, but practical experience and attitude are equally important.
