Assistant Property Officer
The Job
Are you looking to build a career in housing, property or development while helping more people access an affordable home? We are looking for an Assistant Property Officer to join our Strategic Investment and Development team and support the delivery and management of the Council’s growing affordable housing and shared ownership programme.
This is a varied and rewarding opportunity to gain practical experience across the full property and housing development process. Working closely with the Principal Asset Officer and other colleagues, you will help gather, maintain and analyse the information needed to progress new housing opportunities, support shared ownership activity and deliver a responsive service to customers.
You will work with geographical, photographic, financial and numerical information, using a range of software and data systems to support site assessments, property transactions, investment decisions, forecasting and reporting. You will also help keep records accurate and up to date, respond to enquiries, arrange and attend meetings and site visits, take minutes and assist with reports and other documents.
The role offers an excellent opportunity to learn new skills and develop an understanding of how new Council housing and shared ownership homes are taken from initial opportunity through to sale, occupation and ongoing management. Training will be provided on relevant software applications and processes.
The Role
You will provide practical, technical and administrative support across a range of housing and property activities. This will include researching and presenting data, maintaining systems, supporting financial and premises-related enquiries and helping senior officers monitor performance, budgets and service delivery.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
