Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

• To provide psychological assessments for clients under the case of Brent CAMHS under the close supervision of a practitioner psychologist including neuropsychological, tests, self-report psychometric measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.
• To provide protocol-based individual psychological interventions for clients under the case of Brent CAMHS.
• To arrange, schedule and provide protocol-based group psychological interventions for clients open to Brent CAMHS including psycho-educative and early upskilling CBT groups.
• To assist the psychologists in the development of individual or group clinical materials, or training materials.
• To arrange, schedule and co-facilitate training to carers or employees of partner agencies in order to support the clinical work with clients.
• To raise the quality standards of our Service and ensure that policies and procedures are adhered to and practise in line with the National CAMHS agenda, NICE guidelines and CNWL policies and procedures.
• To establish and maintain positive relationships with local organisations.
• To be actively involved in obtaining feedback from young people and families about their treatment, and take initiative in service improvement processes based on this feedback
• To develop, order and maintain appropriate resources and materials, using participatory approaches to help local community’s access local CAMHS services e.g. (video, leaflets and webpages).

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria

• An upper second class honours degree or higher in Psychology.
• Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society

Desirable criteria

• Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis

Experience

Essential criteria

• Sufficient post-graduate experience of psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs in Child & Adolescent Mental Health care to be able to work clinically with close direct supervision.
• Post-graduate experience of conducting research projects or audits.
• Experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities. This may have been gained through work, research, volunteering and / or lived experience

Desirable criteria

• Experience of working within a CAMHS service
• Experience of the application of psychology within different cultural contexts
• Experience of administering either ADOS-2, ADI-R, 3Di, WISC-V, WNV or any other specialist psychology / cognitive assessments

Knowledge And Skills

Essential criteria

• The ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
• Graduate level knowledge of psychological research methodology and statistical analysis.
• An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health concerns, neurodevelopmental differences and / or learning disabilities
• An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health context
• An understanding of psychology applied to health care.
• Skills in relevant psychological assessment and interventions that enable working as a pre qualified practitioner supervision
• Skills in providing supporting teaching and training provided by psychologists or others to other professional groups
• Well-developed IT skills including entry and analysis of research data.

Desirable criteria

• Experience using microcomputers for databases or data-analysis.
• High level of proficiency in working with software (such as Excel for designing spreadsheets) and other tools for analysing and reviewing routine outcome monitoring and questionnaire data.

Abilities

Essential criteria

• Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, participating in effective team functioning and holding team roles
• Ability to identify and follow relevant clinical governance procedures.
• Ability to maintain concentration and to remain in restricted positions for long periods during observations, assessments and psychological interventions.
• Ability to manage occasional emotionally stressful situations such as working with victims of abuse or trauma, or with people who engage in severe self harming or aggressive behaviour.
• Ability to communicate complex, sensitive or contentious information to people who may have impediments to understanding
