Job Overview
This role supports the delivery of high-quality patient care by providing clinical and administrative, clinical support within the Brookside Psychology team and wider service. The post-holder will work closely with their psychology colleagues to ensure a high standard of psychological input to young people and parents. The postholder will work closely with the wider MDT and young people's wider networks in delivering/supporting care.
Main Duties of the Job
- The post-holder's clinical work will primarily be within the inpatient ward, with some input into the YPHTT where relevant.
- The post-holder's main clinical responsibility is in the delivery of the therapeutic timetable (including Psychology groups and community meeting, and supporting OT groups and trips as required).
- The post-holder offers significant administrative support to the lead psychologist in the organisation of the Brookside Psychology Service and in organising the MDT assessment clinic.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
- The post-holder will be supported to develop their skills and knowledge as relevant to applying for the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology wherever possible through opportunities in assessment, formulation, intervention and evaluation where appropriate cases are identified, with a view. This could include, for example, individual and family interventions and specialist assessments.
Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Brookside
Brookside is a specialist Tier 4 CAMHS adolescent service with award winning services. The Tier 4 services include an acute in-patient service and a pioneering Young-People’s Home Treatment Team. Also on site is INTERACT, a psychiatric liaison and crisis outreach service for adolescents.
The young people admitted to the Tier 4 services usually have complex mental health difficulties and present with high risk behaviours (e.g. self-harming/suicidal behaviour) and /or acute episodes of depression, psychosis or other indicators of a complex mental health need.
There is a high level of multi-disciplinary working, and overall there is an intensive therapeutic approach including MDT assessment and formulation and individual, family and group interventions.
The post holder will join an established psychology team including a lead psychologist (Care pathway lead for psychology Tier 4 CAMHS), a team of applied psychologists, assistants and trainees. The post-holder will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team comprised of nurses, health care assistants, consultant psychiatrists, specialty doctors, occupational therapists, and a social worker. Aim of the role: The post holder will be expected to support their team, department and organisation to achieve the Trust’s Values in their day to day work.

The post holder will be responsible for managing their own workload, prioritising tasks effectively, and ensuring deadlines are met. They will be expected to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to high standards. The role may involve some travel in the local area and requires excellent communication and organisational skills. The standard working hours are 9-5 Monday-Friday but applicants should be aware that there could be service developments requiring a change to this working pattern (e.g. evenings/weekends); for example, the parents group often runs outside of these hours. The contract length is for 12 months.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
High Cost Area Supplement Outer London (B&D, Redbridge, Havering and Waltham Forest, Goodmayes)
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,870 to a maximum of £6,137 p.a. pro rata for part time).
