Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the CNWL Eating Disorders Service. We are offering a permanent full-time Assistant Psychologist post within the Vincent Square Eating Disorder Service (adult team). Working as part of a multidisciplinary eating disorders team, the post holder will support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients across the service.
The role will involve delivering and evaluating eating disorder treatment pathways, undertaking psychological assessments, providing direct 1:1 psychological interventions of a routine nature, and supporting psychologically informed care under the supervision of a qualified psychologist/CBT therapist. There will also be opportunities to co-facilitate evidence-based groups, gather feedback from service users and carers, support service development, and contribute to audits and research activities.
We are seeking candidates who can work confidently under supervision, follow direction, work effectively within multidisciplinary teams, and respond flexibly to the needs of the service. The role will play an important part in supporting increased access to evidence-based psychological therapies and psychologically informed interventions.
Main Duties of the Job
This position involves supporting and enhancing the professional psychological care of clients within the service across all sectors or care; conducting audits; providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions of a routine nature, under the direct supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, drawing upon their supervisor’s expertise and intervention as and when advised and directed; and assisting in clinically related administration, developing research projects, providing teaching, and other project work as required.
The post holder will be based across our community sites (Health @ Stowe, W2 5ES and Roxborough Road, Harrow, HA1 1NS), and our inpatient and day patient service in Chelsea, SW10 9NG, as required. The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing assessment and treatment to adults (17+) with eating disorders.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- To undertake, under the direct supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, protocol-based psychological assessments of clients, applying psychological, including neuropsychological, tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.
- To assist in the formulation and delivery of routine care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s problems, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist/CBT therapist, in community, day patient and inpatient settings.
- To assist, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist/CBT therapist, in the coordination and running of protocol-driven treatments such as guided self-help and CBT-T.
- To assist, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist/CBT therapist, in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings where care takes place.
- To attend and contribute to appropriate multidisciplinary meetings.
- To support patients and families during day patient activities, including mealtimes.
- To co-facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational groups under supervision, including evidence-based groups delivered across the service.
- To assist in gathering and evaluating feedback from service users and carers to support service development and quality improvement.
- To assist in clinically related administration, collection of statistics, data management, audits, service evaluations and the development of research and quality improvement projects across the service.
- To contribute to teaching, training and other project work as required by the service.
Teaching, Training and Supervision
- To receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines.
- To gain wider experience of professional psychology within the NHS as agreed with the psychologist to whom they are accountable.
- To develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties.
- To contribute, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist/CBT therapist, to the training and support of other staff in psychological care.

Person Specification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities
- Experience conducting high volume of audits and psychological measures
Desirable criteria
- Experience of paid work in direct care provision.
- Experience of working directly with eating disorders and/or in eating disorder services
- Experience of working with children/young people
- Experience providing low intensity interventions for eating disorders (e.g. guided self-help)
- Experience of facilitating or co-facilitating psychological therapy groups
Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- A 2:1 degree or higher in psychology. Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
Desirable criteria
- Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- High level communication skills (written and verbal), including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.
- Ability to communicate sensitive information to patients, carers and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance.
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems, in particular, eating disorders
- An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health context. An understanding of psychology applied to mental health care.
- Experience using computers for databases or data-analysis, especially SPSS for Windows
Desirable criteria
- High standard of report writing
- An appreciation of issues of particular relevance to the eating disorders.
- An understanding of the different parts of eating disorder services and their function (Outpatients Therapy Team, Day Programme, Intensive Community Team, Community Team, Inpatient Ward)
