Job Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated psychology graduate to work as an Assistant Psychologist (band 4) in adult community psychological services across North East Essex. The post will be based across the North East Essex specialist community mental health teams (Colchester and Tendring). This is an excellent opportunity to be part of dynamic and dedicated services, to gain experience of applied psychology in the NHS, and to learn about working in integrated MDTs. The contract is 12 month fixed term.

In your application please tell us what makes Adult Community services a place that you are keen to work.

Please be advised that this advert will close early due to a high number of anticipated applicants.

Main duties of the job

The role centres on supporting qualified staff in the running of adult community psychological services. The post holder will assist the psychological services team members in the provision of group interventions and, under supervision and with supportive guidance, provide manualised specific one to one interventions. They will also be part of a supportive Assistant Psychologist group who provide review calls to people on our waiting list as part of our work on service user experience and safety.

There will also be an emphasis on securing outcomes from people who are accessing the service, and contributing to associated data reporting as part of a quality and accountability framework.

The post is embedded in the Specialist Community Mental Health teams (SMHTs) and as such the Assistant Psychologist will gain experiences of assessment, formulation development, and intervention planning through working with qualified Psychologists, Psychotherapists, and Clinical Associates in Psychology (CAPs), as well as MDT colleagues. There are multiple opportunities to access reflective practice and mentoring from colleagues and to network with APs in other services.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
