An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Essex CAMHS team for motivated and enthusiastic psychology graduates with experience and interest in working with children and young people who have mental health or emotional wellbeing difficulties.
We have roles available across our CAMHS Hubs in South and West Essex, our eating disorders team based in Chelmsford and our Mental Health support team (MHST) in the South of the county.
Each of these varied roles offers the successful candidate the opportunity to participate in clinical and service development roles under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist via one to one or group supervision. The successful post holder will receive weekly supervision, training and support in this role and be part of one of the UK’s most innovative healthcare Trusts.
Applicants should possess:
- A good honours degree in psychology (1st or high 2:1)
- Preferably have experience of working with children and young people with mental health difficulties either in a clinic environment or in the community

Main duties of the job
NELFT’s CAMHS is for anybody aged between 0-18, living in the Southend, Essex and Thurrock areas and is free at the point of entry. The service is also for young people with special educational needs (SEN) up to the age of 25.
Any young person experiencing emotional wellbeing or mental health problems, (or any parent, guardian, professional or teacher of a child who is experiencing emotional wellbeing and mental health difficulties), may access our service.
What difficulties can be referred to the service?
- Mood and anxiety difficulties
- Behavioural and conduct difficulties
- Eating difficulties
- Deliberate self-harm and suicidal ideation
- Substance misuse with co-existing mental health needs (dual diagnosis)
- Neurodevelopmental disorders with co-occurring mental health needs

All referrals to the service are assessed using a triage approach, developed in line with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidance criteria (NICE) and based on a best practice model of treatment.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Goodmayes Hospital, Ilford, Essex.

Essential Criteria
- An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology
- Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis
- Work with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities
- Experience of paid work in direct care provision.
- Experience of using routine outcome measures and psychometric tests
- Work with children, young people and their families with mental health problems and/or disabilities
- Possesses excellent communication skills- written and verbal, ability to work with families, team members and a wider multi-disciplinary team.
