About the Role
NHS Talking Therapies in Hertfordshire is seeking a motivated and creative Assistant Psychologist (AP) to join our well-established, dynamic, and supportive service. You will contribute to the delivery of psychological therapies in a primary care setting, with a particular focus on Long Term Health Conditions (LTC). We were one of the first Talking Therapies services in the UK to receive APPTS accreditation.
We recognise the AP role as an important step towards clinical psychology training and have a successful record of APs progressing into training. This is supported by the combination of clinical, research, and audit experience, alongside a strong understanding of primary care within the NHS.
Key Responsibilities
- Working under supervision, you will provide psychological assessment and treatment to service users experiencing depression and anxiety in the context of an LTC.
- You will also contribute to service development through audits, data collection, research, and innovation projects.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
