Job Overview
Assistant Psychologist, full time, fixed term until 31/3/37.
We are looking for a highly motivated, hard-working and dynamic psychology graduate to join RISE: Recovery Intervention Service Ealing and the Rough Sleepers Drug & Alcohol Team.
RISE is an established partnership substance misuse service between CGL (Change Grow Live), CNWL and Build on Belief. It specializes in supporting recovery for drug and alcohol difficulties and caters to a wide range of service users including co-occurring mental health and physical health difficulties, criminal justice and service users who are sleeping rough or at risk of rough sleeping.
You would be joining a well-established multi-disciplinary team; currently consisting of Psychiatry, Psychology, Nursing, Drug and Alcohol Recovery Practitioners, and Group facilitators.
Main duties of the job
The role of the Assistant Psychologist is to support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the service across all sectors of care; providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions, both one to one and group, under the supervision, working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified clinical psychologist and within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.
The post holder will also assist in clinically related administration; conduct audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.
Minimum requirement
Minimum requirement of 2:1 undergraduate degree in psychology, an understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with addictions and/or mental health problems, and/or experience of working with people with other disabilities, and good research skills. Experience of working with people with addictions is valuable, but we recognize that not all applicants will have had this opportunity. Tailored induction and training will be provided to enable you to work effectively with this client group.

The Addictions Directorate within CNWL Foundation Trust is a large, well-established provider which offers a wide range of specialist NHS drug and alcohol treatment interventions to the diverse and multicultural populations in Central and North West London. Our drug and alcohol services include community services, A&E liaison services, Peripatetic nurses, Family Therapy, a National Problem Gambling Clinic and a Club Drug Clinic.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

- To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice in individual work.
- To assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects on a regular basis in order to help develop and improve service provision. This may include complex audits / service evaluation using qualitative or quantitative methods.
- To undertake production of questionnaires, data collection, setting up of databases and spreadsheets, data analysis, and the production of reports and presentation of summaries to colleagues using IT and statistical programmes, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and SPSS.
- To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research using the internet and online databases e.g. Psych info, to assist qualified clinical psychologists in evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other multi-disciplinary team members.
- To carry-out practice-based research using validated questionnaires, reflective scientist practitioner skills, etc, as routine.

Person specification
Training & Qualification
Essential criteria
- An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology
- Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
Desirable criteria
- Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous clinical or research experience in the field of psychology.
Desirable criteria
- Post-graduate research experience
- At least one year paid post-graduate work with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities
Knowledge And Skills
Essential criteria
- Experience using microcomputers for databases or data-analysis, especially excel for Windows.
- High standard of report writing.
- High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.
- Ability to communicate sensitive information to patients, carers and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance.
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems or other disabilities.
- An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health context
- An understanding of psychology applied to health care.
PERSONAL

- An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines. An ability to interact with people with mental health problems disabilities.
- Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals.
