Role Overview
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Ringwood for an Assistant QS / Assistant Buyer. The role involves supporting the Quantity Surveying and Buying functions across residential and care home projects, including assisting with cost planning, budgeting, and procurement activities. Day-to-day tasks include preparing and reviewing cost estimates, monitoring project costs, maintaining records, and assisting with valuations and payments to suppliers and subcontractors. The Assistant QS / Assistant Buyer will help source materials, compare quotations, and support negotiations to secure best value while maintaining quality standards. The role also includes liaising with project managers, site teams, and external suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and adherence to contractual and compliance requirements.

Qualifications

- Ability to assist with cost planning, budgeting, and financial reporting for construction projects, including basic knowledge of quantity surveying principles.
- Skills in procurement and buying, such as sourcing materials, obtaining and comparing quotations, and supporting supplier and subcontractor negotiations.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and IT skills, including proficiency with Excel and familiarity with construction or procurement-related software.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with site teams, project managers, and external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage documentation, maintain records, and meet deadlines.
- Relevant education or training in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Procurement, or a related field; working toward professional accreditation is an advantage.
- Previous experience or a placement in construction, residential development, or a similar environment is beneficial but not essential.
