Assistant Quality & Environmental Manager

Orion Group are supporting a successful Civi Engineering & Infrastructure Client to source an Assistant Quality & Environmental Manager.

The Assistant Quality & Environmental Manager will support the Quality and Environmental Manager in the maintenance and development of the quality management, environmental management, and energy management systems across the business. The role ensures that the business maintains third party certification of these systems to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 respectively. The post holder will work closely with the Q&E Manager in the measurement and reporting of the Company carbon and energy performance, and demonstration of compliance with applicable regulatory and other requirements. The role can either be based in the Highlands or Glasgow, and is an excellent opportunity for someone seeking to develop there career in this field, as this is also part of a succession plan for the existing Q&E Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ownership of the systems audit planning process
  • Management of the 3rd party assessments of our ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001 certifications
  • Managing the process for non-financial supply chain evaluation and maintaining records of evaluation
  • Provision of quality and sustainability advice and guidance to construction site teams
  • Delivery of quality and sustainability training and awareness sessions to site and office staff
  • Maintenance of our environmental legal register and evaluation of legal compliance
  • Measurement of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions and providing data input to Company and Group GHG and Sustainability reporting processes
  • Production of project carbon baselines and carbon reduction plans
  • Review of project quality and sustainability plans

Skills and Experience Required

  • Degree in Environmental Engineering & Would be Advantagious
  • Experience QMS & EMS would be beneficial
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation relevant to construction projects
  • Experience in the construction or a related industry (civil engineering preferred)
  • Understanding of construction industry practices and materials
  • Understanding of carbon reporting, GHG Protocol, and sustainability frameworks
  • Experience supporting supply chain and carrying out EQS evaluations
