Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Location: Worksop
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

An established and growing construction business is looking to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual looking to build a long-term career in quantity surveying, working alongside experienced professionals on a varied portfolio of construction projects.

The successful Assistant Quantity Surveyor will gain exposure to all aspects of the commercial function, receiving ongoing support and development while taking on increasing responsibility as their experience grows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of cost estimates, budgets and tender documentation.
  • Support the measurement and valuation of completed works.
  • Assist in preparing applications for payment and final accounts.
  • Help manage subcontractor procurement, valuations and payments.
  • Monitor project costs and contribute to financial reporting.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation.
  • Attend site visits and project meetings when required.
  • Support senior members of the commercial team with day-to-day quantity surveying activities.
  • Ensure commercial processes comply with contractual requirements and company procedures.
  • Assist with early warning notices and compensation events.
  • Support cost value reconciliations, allocations and investigation work.
  • Prepare and present weekly budgets and cost value reconciliations.
  • Update and monitor commercial action trackers.
  • Complete daily business reconciliations.

To be successful in this Assistant Quantity Surveyor role, you will ideally have:

  • A degree, HNC or HND in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline, or be working towards one.
  • Some industry experience gained through employment, an apprenticeship or a placement year.
  • A good understanding of construction and commercial processes.
  • Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Good time management and organisational abilities.
  • A basic understanding of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
