Assistant Quantity Surveyor – West Yorkshire
£35,000 – £42,000 + Package
We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join an established housebuilder delivering high-quality residential developments across West Yorkshire.
The role is primarily office-based from the company's Leeds office, with regular site visits required across the region. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Assistant QS looking to develop their commercial career within housebuilding, working alongside an experienced commercial team and gaining exposure across the full lifecycle of residential developments.
You will play an important role in supporting the commercial management of live developments, helping to control costs, manage subcontractors and ensure projects are delivered efficiently and commercially.
The Role
- Support the Quantity Surveyor and wider Commercial team with the day-to-day commercial management of residential developments.
- Assist with subcontractor procurement, tendering and preparation of subcontract packages.
- Assist with the preparation and review of budgets, valuations, cost reports, forecasts and monthly commercial reporting.
- Monitor project costs and expenditure, identifying potential commercial issues and opportunities.
- Assist with the measurement and valuation of works completed on site, including cost/value reconciliations.
- Support subcontractor payments, variations, commercial queries and final accounts.
- Review drawings, specifications and construction information to support accurate cost management.
- Work closely with Site Management, Technical, Land and Commercial teams to ensure developments remain commercially controlled.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Assist with resolving commercial queries and identifying cost-effective solutions.
- Ensure commercial processes are followed in line with company procedures and relevant legislation.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and documentation while developing a strong understanding of residential construction, build costs, materials and subcontractor rates.

About You
- Previous experience within a Quantity Surveying or Assistant Quantity Surveying role, ideally within housebuilding, residential development or a main contractor environment.
- Good understanding of construction processes and commercial principles, including subcontractor procurement, valuations, variations and cost control.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Confident using Microsoft Excel and wider Microsoft Office packages.
- Relevant HNC, HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a construction-related discipline, or currently working towards one.
- Strong communication and organisational skills with the ability to build effective relationships.
- Commercially minded with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between the Leeds office and residential developments across Yorkshire.
- Ambitious and keen to progress towards a Quantity Surveyor position.

Salary & Package
- £35,000 – £42,000 depending on experience.
