Assistant Quantity Surveyor Bedford

Up to £35,000 + Car or Car Allowance

A leading flooring subcontractor in Bedford has an opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team. This is a versatile role covering commercial management, project support, and estimating. You will be joining a strong, experienced team of five in a business known for quality, reliability, and excellent client relationships.

Hybrid working is available after a training period.

The Role

This is an office-based role with regular site visits. You will work across commercial duties, project management support, and estimating. You must be versatile and confident managing multiple responsibilities.

Key duties include:

  • Applications for payment
  • Pricing variations
  • Measuring works and reviewing drawings
  • Supporting cost reporting and forecasting
  • Preparing and reviewing subcontractor packages
  • Comparing quotations and supporting procurement
  • Assisting with contract administration and commercial documentation
  • Carrying out site visits and site surveys (12 times per week)
  • Managing 68 live sites
  • Acting as Project Manager when required (covering holidays or absence)
  • Supporting estimating on tenders and pricing exercises
  • Working on projects requiring security clearance

You will gain exposure to a wide range of flooring disciplines including vinyl, lino, timber, sports flooring, ceramics, acoustic systems, hygienic wall cladding, raised access flooring, and screeds.

This role is suitable for:

  • Assistant Quantity Surveyors with subcontractor experience
  • Candidates with flooring or specialist subcontractor background
  • Individuals with 1 year+ QS experience looking to progress

The Right Person

  • Ideally 1 year+ experience as a Quantity Surveyor
  • Flooring or subcontractor background preferred
  • Must be able to drive
  • Versatile and able to manage multiple responsibilities
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to manage 68 live sites
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Able to work independently and within a team
  • Comfortable working on security-cleared projects (training provided)

Working Hours

8.30am - 5.00pm

Hybrid working available after a training period.
