A growing civil engineering contractor delivering infrastructure projects across the energy and wastewater sectors throughout the North West. Working with major utility clients, the business has built a strong reputation for delivering complex schemes safely, efficiently and to the highest standards. Due to continued growth, they are now seeking an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team and support the delivery of a diverse portfolio of civil engineering projects.

Your new role

As Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will work closely with the Commercial Manager and wider operational team, supporting the commercial delivery of multiple civil engineering schemes ranging from £200k to £3m in value. This is an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to develop their career within a supportive environment, gaining exposure to all aspects of quantity surveying and commercial management.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the commercial management of energy and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Supporting the preparation of valuations, applications for payment and cost reports.
  • Assisting with subcontractor procurement, administration and payment processes.
  • Monitoring project costs and helping to identify commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Preparing and pricing variations and compensation events.
  • Supporting the production of forecasts and financial reporting.
  • Working closely with site teams to ensure accurate commercial records are maintained.
  • Developing a strong understanding of contracts, commercial procedures and project delivery processes under the guidance of the Commercial Manager.

What you'll need to succeed

You will have a genuine interest in pursuing a career within quantity surveying and commercial management, ideally within the civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities or construction sectors. You will also have:

  • Previous experience in an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Trainee Quantity Surveyor or similar role.
  • A degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline, or be working towards one.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn from experienced commercial professionals.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Full UK driving licence preferred.
