Job Summary

The Assistant Quantity Surveyor supports the commercial and contractual management of construction projects, assisting in the effective control of costs, procurement, valuations, and contract administration throughout the project lifecycle. Working alongside senior commercial team members, the AQS helps ensure that work packages are delivered within budget and in accordance with contractual requirements, from project initiation through to final account settlement and close-out. The role contributes to maximising project value, managing risk, and maintaining accurate commercial records while supporting the successful delivery West Suffolk Hospital objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the administration of contracts for suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Support cost management, cash flow forecasting, and budget reporting for allocated packages.
  • Assist with the assessment of compensation events, claims, and change control.
  • Support the preparation and review of tender documentation, tender returns, and schedules of rates.
  • Assist with contractor valuations, payment applications, and final accounts.
  • Contribute to project cost reporting, audits, and contract close-out activities.
  • Review project instructions for commercial implications and escalate issues as required.
  • Support commercial negotiations and help resolve financial and contractual matters.

Project Specific

  • Supporting the West Suffolk Hospital project
  • Reporting into the Commercial Lead

Technical Skills And Competencies

  • Knowledge of all aspects of commercial management
  • Knowledge of various forms of NEC contract
  • Knowledge of IT systems relevant to Commercial Control (CEMAR & Aconex)

Qualifications, Certifications And Experience

  • Relevant experience of commercial management.
  • Experience of Construction projects and Joint Venture arrangements.
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying or similar.
