About The Role

We're looking for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our team and contribute to this nationally significant project.

Now, as part of a consortium delivering the groundbreaking Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project, we're helping to construct a first-of-its-kind gas-fired power station with integrated carbon capture and storage technology. This landmark project will play a key role in making Teesside the UK's first decarbonised industrial cluster and supporting the nation's journey to Net Zero.

Location - Leeds (with travel to the Net Zero Teesside project)

What you'll be doing

  • Maintain awareness of Balfour Beatty governance requirements and support compliance with BMS and commercial procedures.
  • Assist with the preparation of cost reports, forecasts, and budgets.
  • Support interim valuations, payment applications, and cost value reconciliations (CVRs).
  • Assist in tracking project costs, variations, and change control.
  • Support the preparation and close-out of final accounts.
  • Support contract administration in accordance with the agreed form of contract (typically NEC4).
  • Help maintain accurate commercial records and cost data.
  • Assist in monitoring compliance with contractual obligations and internal governance processes.
  • Support subcontractor procurement, including tender enquiries, evaluations, and contract administration.
  • Assist with subcontractor payments, variations, and performance monitoring.
  • Help maintain effective working relationships with the supply chain.
  • Identify potential commercial risks and opportunities and escalate as appropriate.
  • Support the maintenance of risk registers and change logs.
  • Contribute to regular commercial and financial reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, procurement, and commercial colleagues.
  • Support senior commercial staff with day-to-day commercial activities.
  • Actively work towards professional development and chartership.

  • Some experience within a construction or infrastructure environment.
  • Basic understanding of commercial and cost management principles
  • Awareness of NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4 desirable).

Essentials

The following qualifications or their equivalent are essential:

  • Working towards BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
  • Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards
