Assistant Quantity Surveyor
South West | Permanent | £30,000–£35,000
Are you an Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking for an opportunity where you can gain hands-on commercial experience and continue developing your career?
I’m working with an established civil engineering contractor looking to strengthen their commercial team with the appointment of an Assistant Quantity Surveyor.
This is a great opportunity for someone in the earlier stages of their QS career who wants exposure to live civil engineering projects, support from experienced commercial professionals, and the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as their experience develops.
The Role
As Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you’ll support the commercial management of projects from delivery through to final account, working closely with the wider project and commercial teams.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with subcontractor procurement and management
- Supporting valuations, applications, and payments
- Measurement and assessment of works
- Monitoring project costs and commercial performance
- Supporting variations and change management
- Maintaining accurate commercial records
- Assisting with forecasting and reporting
- Working closely with operational and site teams
- Supporting the Senior QS with the day-to-day commercial management of projects
About You
You’ll ideally have some previous experience within Quantity Surveying, either as an Assistant QS, Graduate QS, or in a similar commercial position.
Experience within civil engineering or construction would be beneficial, along with a relevant HNC/HND, degree, or equivalent qualification; however, attitude, commercial awareness, and a genuine desire to develop are equally important.

You’ll need to be organised, confident communicating with both site and commercial teams, and comfortable travelling within the South West when required.
Package
£30,000–£35,000 depending on experience, plus business mileage and company benefits.
