Role Description
This role is to be initially based on our Union Park project in Hayes. As principal contractor we are constructing 18 Data Halls of approximately 1250m2 each, to be deployed at approximately 24MW of total useable IT power. Part of the development included the construction of an adjacent High Voltage Electrical Compound. This was linked to a Medium Voltage Energy Centre with dual backup power generation. The building mass consists of a series of staggered blocks, surrounded by an internal one-way circulation system with both soft and hard landscaping.
The MV Energy Centres are located either side of North Hyde Gardens are smaller in scale providing a stepping down appearance towards the Grand Union Canal. The HV Energy Centre is located to the east of the MV Energy Centre to the side of North Hyde Gardens. A single storey Visitor Reception Centre enabling security protocols for visitors and employees is located near North Hyde Gardens.
Responsibilities
The Assistant Quantity Surveyor supports the commercial delivery of projects or defined work packages, taking ownership of allocated activities while developing the capability to operate independently as a Quantity Surveyor.
Commercial Reporting & Cost Control
- Prepare and update cost value reconciliation information for allocated sections of projects
- Assist with preparing and submitting interim valuations and applications for payment
- Monitor costs against budget for allocated work areas and report identified variances
- Assist with project forecasting by compiling accurate and timely cost and value information
- Maintain accurate and auditable commercial records

Procurement & Subcontract Management
- Support procurement activities, including issuing enquiries, analysing quotations and preparing tender comparisons
- Assess subcontractor applications for payment, including measurement and verification under appropriate supervision
- Support administration of subcontract accounts, including valuations, variations, payments and final accounts
- Assist with preparation of subcontractor and project final accounts
Contract & Change Management
- Identify, measure and record change events and variations
- Develop understanding of relevant contract terms, notices and commercial obligations
- Maintain appropriate records to support variations and contractual entitlement
- Identify commercial risks, issues and opportunities and escalate them appropriately
Project & Stakeholder Support
- Liaise with project teams to support accurate measurement and reporting of project progress
- Build effective working relationships with clients, subcontractors, consultants and suppliers
- Support Commercial colleagues with delivery of project priorities
- Communicate commercial information clearly and accurately
Development & Compliance
- Develop knowledge of construction methods, commercial processes and relevant forms of construction contract
- Apply company procedures, governance requirements and commercial standards
- Take ownership of personal development and professional progression
- Progress towards independent management of defined commercial activities
Decision Authority
- Makes day-to-day decisions within clearly defined activities and agreed parameters
- Recommends valuations, variations and subcontract account positions for review
- Identifies and escalates commercial risks and matters outside delegated authority
- Does not make material contractual commitments without appropriate approval

The duties listed are not exhaustive and may be varied from time to time as dictated by the changing needs of the Company. The post holder will be expected to undertake other duties as appropriate and as requested by his/her manager.
The post holder may be required to work at any of the locations at which the business of Sweet Projects is conducted.
Experience Required
- Relevant experience within a construction or project environment
- Developing understanding of commercial processes, procurement and subcontract administration
- Experience supporting cost reporting, valuation or measurement activities is desirable
Qualifications
- HNC, HND or degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- Working towards relevant professional accreditation is desirable
