Assistant SENCo / Specialist Dyslexia Teacher

Location: Maidenhead, SL6 6AW
Salary: Competitive
Hours: Full-Time Monday to Friday, 8.15am-5.15pm, term time
Start date: As soon as possible
Closing date: Monday 26 October 2026 at 8.00am

Are you a qualified specialist teacher with experience in dyslexia assessment, SpLD support, and JCQ exam access arrangements?

Claires Court is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Assistant SENCo / Specialist Dyslexia Teacher to join its Neurodiversity Department.

The Role

This is a varied, pupil-focused role combining specialist teaching, formal assessment, and support for inclusive practice across our three school sites. You will work closely with the Senior School and Sixth Form Neurodiversity Lead/SENCo and the Junior School Neurodiversity Lead/SENCo.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Delivering specialist SpLD teaching to individual pupils and small groups.
  • Conducting formal SpLD assessments and dyslexia diagnoses across all three schools.
  • Co-leading JCQ exam access arrangements and supporting applications ahead of examination-board deadlines.
  • Screening and assessing pupils experiencing literacy barriers or specific learning differences.
  • Supporting pupils with dyslexia, autism, and ADHD within mainstream school settings.
  • Coordinating speech, language, and autism support alongside the school’s SENCos.
  • Contributing to referrals for Education, Health, and Care Plan assessments.
  • Supporting the quality assurance of Learning Support Assistant and Teaching Assistant provision.
  • Helping develop adaptive and inclusive teaching practice across the curriculum.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and the wider Neurodiversity Department.
  • Managing shared caseloads, referrals, and assessment outcomes effectively.

About You

To be considered, you must:

  • Hold the relevant specialist teaching and assessment qualifications required to assess learners with dyslexia, specific learning differences, and literacy difficulties.
  • Be appropriately qualified and experienced to support JCQ exam access arrangements.
  • Have experience supporting pupils with dyslexia, autism, and ADHD.
  • Be confident delivering specialist one-to-one and small-group teaching.
  • Understand current theory and good practice relating to SEND, adaptive teaching, and inclusive education.
  • Have strong organisational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Be able to work collaboratively across different school sites and professional teams.
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and safeguarding.
  • Be an enthusiastic team member who is willing to contribute to the wider life of the school.

Experience of teaching pupils with dyscalculia or lower mathematical ability would be advantageous but is not essential.

Above all, you will be committed to securing the best possible outcomes for every pupil and understand the importance of educating and supporting the whole child.
