Assistant Solicitor / Fee Earner – Large & Complex Loss

Cardiff

Hybrid – 1 to 2 days in the office per week

Our Large & Complex Loss team specialises in handling some of the most significant and high-value personal injury claims in the market. Working on multi-track cases valued from £500,000 through to multi-million-pound claims, the team manages complex litigation involving catastrophic injuries and life-changing circumstances. You'll work alongside highly experienced lawyers, gaining exposure to challenging and rewarding cases while developing your expertise in a collaborative and supportive environment.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting Partners and Senior Solicitors with the day-to-day management of catastrophic and complex injury claims.
  • Assisting with pre- and post-litigation multi-track personal injury cases, including claims valued more than £500,000.
  • Reviewing and analysing evidence, preparing case strategies and drafting legal correspondence.
  • Preparing court documentation and ensuring compliance with court directions and deadlines.
  • Managing court timetables and maintaining accurate file records.
  • Preparing and reviewing evidence under supervision, including witness statements and expert reports.
  • Attending conferences with clients, counsel and expert witnesses.
  • Representing clients at hearings where appropriate and attending court as required.
  • Instructing experts and counsel and assisting with trial preparation.
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships while delivering excellent service and meeting SLAs.
  • Ensuring management information is updated accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Keeping up to date with relevant case law, legislation and market developments.
  • Managing files in accordance with client service standards, regulatory requirements and internal procedures.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality and ensuring compliance with data protection requirements.

What do I need?

  • Qualified Solicitor with a minimum of 2 years' PQE, or equivalent experience handling complex personal injury claims.
  • Previous multi-track litigation experience is essential.
  • Strong experience within personal injury litigation is essential.
  • Experience of large loss or catastrophic injury work is highly desirable.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong understanding of relevant case law and its practical application.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a wider team.
  • Experience managing client relationships and delivering high levels of client service.
  • Knowledge of the insurance market would be advantageous.
  • Defendant litigation experience would be desirable.
  • Indemnity experience would be beneficial.
  • A genuine interest in catastrophic injury and large loss work.
  • Flexibility to travel when required to attend client meetings, court hearings and witness appointments.
