Due to a Major Store Revamp

SPAR Portarlington, located at Canal House, Station Rd, Portarlington, Co Laois, is seeking a full-time Assistant Store Manager to join their fantastic team.

Successful Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years retail supervisory experience.

Supervisory

  • Supervise the activities of the retail sales team daily and ensure necessary tasks are completed to an appropriate level.
  • Ensure high quality and consistent customer service is always provided.
  • Delegate and communicate effectively with the retail sales team.
  • Supervise the effective induction and training of all employees.
  • Communicate sales performance to the team.
  • Assist the store manager in the recruitment of retail sales assistants.
  • Assist the store manager in the effective management of retail sales team performance.
  • Assist with Back Office management.

Operations

  • Ensure store is merchandised in a customer-friendly and competitive manner, ensuring compliance with company procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensure housekeeping in the store is maintained at an optimum level.
  • Coordinate in-store sales and promotions.
  • Communicate with the retail sales team regarding in-store sales and promotions.
  • Ensure the appropriate cash register and cash handling policy is adhered to.
  • Ensure shelf-edged labels are updated on a weekly basis.
  • React to local market trends and competition in an appropriate manner.
  • Ensure customers always receive high quality and consistent service.
  • Deal with and rectify customer complaints in an effective and pleasant manner.
  • Pro-actively take necessary action in store improvements following customer complaints.

General

  • Know and understand company policies and procedures and ensure they are implemented effectively by the retail sales team.
  • Achieve targets as agreed with the store manager.
  • Escalate issues to the store manager as appropriate.
  • Communicate with the store manager on an ongoing basis.
  • Deputise as store manager when the store manager is not available.
  • Undertake other additional duties as may be assigned by the store manager.

Ideal Candidate Attributes

  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Operational knowledge of the retail environment
  • Working knowledge of CBE back office would be an advantage
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • An understanding of consumer needs
  • HACCP trained
  • Committed to continually improving standards
  • Self-motivated & ambitious
  • Computer literate
