Umbrella - £21.66 per hour - umbrella
Job Purpose
As an Assistant Surveyor - Garages, you will support the management of Milton Keynes Council's garage portfolio, ensuring garages and associated assets are effectively managed, maintained, inspected, and let. You will undertake inspections, manage property records, coordinate maintenance activities, and provide operational support across the Council's Property and Development service.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
- Manage the Council's garage portfolio, including lettings, inspections, maintenance matters, and disposals.
- Undertake garage, estate, and property inspections.
- Inspect vacant garages and garage compounds.
- Maintain accurate records relating to occupancy, voids, repairs, and compliance.
- Process garage licence applications, terminations, and amendments.
- Prepare and issue licence agreements and associated documentation.
- Maintain and update databases, spreadsheets, and property management systems.
- Respond to customer enquiries and provide advice regarding garage tenancies.
- Support debt management processes through accurate record keeping.
- Coordinate routine inspections and health and safety checks.
- Raise and instruct minor repair works, including lock changes, door repairs, and clearance works.
- Liaise with contractors and monitor completion of works.
- Prepare reports, surveys, plans, property records, and risk assessments.
- Attend meetings with tenants, contractors, consultants, and stakeholders.
- Assist with audits, project work, and service improvement initiatives.

Essential Experience Required
- Experience within Property Management, Estates Management, Asset Management, or Surveying.
- Experience undertaking property or estate inspections.
- Experience handling property transactions, licences, consents, or tenancy agreements.
- Experience maintaining property records and databases.
- Experience managing repairs and contractor instruction processes.
- Experience producing reports and management information.
- Experience working with budgets, income monitoring, or financial processes.
- Strong customer service and stakeholder management experience.
- Good knowledge of property management and land ownership matters.
- Experience using Microsoft Office systems and property databases.

Essential Qualifications Required
- NVQ Level 3 in Property Management, Surveying, Estates Management, or similar qualification.
- Alternatively, significant relevant property management experience.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Access to a vehicle.
Additional Information to Note
- Working hours: 29.6 hours per week.
- Initially 4 days per week.
- Expected to reduce to 3 days per week after approximately 2 months.
- Working hours: 09:00 - 17:30.
- Location: Civic Offices, 1 Saxon Gate East, Milton Keynes, MK9 3EJ.
- On-site and office-based role.
- Driving licence and access to own vehicle are essential.
- Experience in property, estates, garages, asset management, or local authority property environments highly desirable.
