About the Job

Working closely with senior managers, directors, and partners, the Private Client Tax Assistant Manager will be responsible for managing a portfolio of private clients and completing the following duties:

  • Manage a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, wealthy families, trusts, and offshore structures.
  • Prepare, review, and submit personal tax returns.
  • Ensure all tax returns comply with relevant tax legislation and filing requirements.
  • Advise clients on a range of UK private client tax matters.
  • Support international and cross-border tax advisory projects.
  • Assist with inheritance tax, succession planning, and profit extraction advice.
  • Gain exposure to offshore trusts and international structures.
  • Support OMB restructuring projects, including mergers, demergers, acquisitions, and tax due diligence.
  • Manage P11D, inheritance tax, and personal tax compliance matters.
  • Liaise directly with clients and HMRC regarding personal tax queries.
  • Support HMRC enquiries, investigations, and voluntary disclosures.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients.
  • Identify tax advisory opportunities and potential additional work.
  • Support business development and marketing initiatives.
  • Assist senior colleagues and partners with complex private client projects.
  • Supervise, coach, and support junior members of the team.
  • Manage assignments effectively while contributing to revenue and profitability targets.
  • Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge through ongoing professional development.

Previous Experience

  • Previous private client tax, personal tax, or mixed tax experience within an accountancy practice.
  • Currently operating at Assistant Manager level or an experienced Tax Senior ready to progress.
  • Experience managing or supporting a portfolio of private clients.
  • Strong personal tax compliance experience.
  • Exposure to P11Ds, inheritance tax, trusts, or international tax would be advantageous.
  • Experience working with HNW individuals, families, or trusts would be desirable.
  • Strong technical knowledge with the ability to research complex areas of tax legislation.
  • Confidence communicating directly with clients and HMRC.
  • Previous experience supervising or supporting junior team members would be advantageous.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Commercial awareness and an interest in tax advisory and business development.
  • CTA, ACA, ACCA, CA qualified or an equivalent professional qualification.
