Assistant Team Manager (Children with Disabilities and Outreach Services)
11096 | Permanent Contract | 37 hours per week | £43,822 to £48,227 per annum | Grade K | Springwood Hub, Norwich
Lead practice. Support families. Make a difference.
We have an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Assistant Team Manager to join Springwood Hub, supporting children and young people with disabilities who are within, or on the edge of, the care system.
Springwood Hub provides emergency and medium-term residential care, alongside outreach support offering intensive short-term interventions within family homes. The service plays a vital role in preventing children entering care where possible, supporting families during times of crisis and helping to reduce the risk of placement breakdown.
At Norfolk County Council, we are committed to providing high-quality, child-centred care and support that helps disabled children and young people feel safe, listened to and able to thrive. We are proud of our services and our reputation for working creatively and ambitiously to achieve the best possible outcomes for children and families.
About the role
As Assistant Team Manager, you will provide day-to-day management support and leadership to a skilled residential and outreach team. You will work closely with the Team Manager to create a positive, safe and nurturing environment for children and young people, ensuring their health, safety, education, care planning and emotional wellbeing remain central to practice.
You will:
- Lead, support and motivate staff to deliver high-quality care and support to children and young people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, complex health needs, and behaviours of distress that may challenge. Provide regular supervision, performance management, appraisal, induction, and development support to ensure staff are competent, confident, and able to meet the individual needs of children and young people.
- Take day-to-day responsibility for the home or service area when required, offering advice, guidance and decision-making support to the team. Participate in care planning, statutory reviews, safeguarding processes and multi-agency decision-making.
- Promote the voice of the child, ensuring children and young people are supported to express their views, wishes and feelings in ways that are meaningful to them.
- Work in partnership with families, social care colleagues, education, health and other professionals to provide integrated support.
- Support quality assurance, reflective practice, service development and compliance with legislation, Ofsted requirements and Norfolk County Council policies and procedures.
- Participate in the out-of-hours rota and, where necessary, work evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
