Purpose of the Role

At Colas Group, our global network of bitumen terminals and fleet of ships play a crucial role in securing the vital raw materials for our operations. As a subsidiary of Colas, Continental Bitumen operates a cutting-edge bitumen terminal and blending facility in Avonmouth, UK. Currently, we are seeking an Assistant Terminal Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Terminal Manager, you will help oversee the operation and maintenance of the terminal, ensuring compliance with QHSSE regulations. You will support and lead a team of operators and contractors to deliver safe, efficient bitumen handling and blending, while meeting business targets for safety, cost, volume, quality, and customer satisfaction.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing all terminal operations including import/export of bitumen by ship and road, storage, blending, and dispatch.
  • Support adherence to safety and environmental standards.
  • Operational scheduling, stock and maintenance management.
  • Liaise with third parties such as shipping agents and port authorities.
  • Coordinate staff rotas and training to maintain smooth 24-hour operations when required.
  • Be the first point of emergency contact.
  • Contribute to auditing processes and promote continuous improvement at the terminal.

Ideal Candidate

  • HNC/D or degree level education (engineering qualification desirable).
  • At least two years’ experience in a similar or related role, including team management.
  • Health and safety qualification or relevant experience is essential.
  • Clean driving licence.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of the bitumen industry is a plus.
  • Dependable team player, flexible and committed to delivering high standards safely and efficiently.

Package Description

  • A salary of £40,000 - £47,000 per annum.
