Assistant Transport Modeller – Leicester

Are you looking to develop your career in transport modelling and work on a wide range of interesting projects? We are looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Transport Modeller to join our expanding Midlands Transport Team in Leicester, working for a leading technical consultancy with a strong presence in the UK and globally.

Purpose & Scope of the Role

You will support our growing workload, working on a wide variety of transport planning and modelling projects for clients across the private and public sectors.

  • Assist colleagues with checking, analysing and preparing data for use in transport models
  • Analyse and summarise outputs for inclusion in client reports
  • Work with spreadsheets, databases, and coding

Working alongside experienced transport modellers, you will receive on-the-job training in modelling-specific software such as VISUM and SATURN.

Your Impact in this position

You will undertake your work with a high degree of diligence and quality, in line with Tetra Tech’s Quality Assurance processes. You will assist colleagues in preparing technical papers and client reports and will need to be well organised and able to manage your time effectively to meet project deadlines.

Core Capabilities

Drive & Delivery

  • A drive to succeed, willingness to get involved, and a strong focus on results and project delivery.

Technical & Numerical Skills

  • Strong spreadsheet skills, some coding experience, and the ability to produce clear, precise, and coherent analysis, reports, and drawings.

  • A methodical approach to problem solving, with strong attention to detail.

Team Working

  • Strong team-working capabilities and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across project activities.

Communication

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, supporting the preparation of technical papers and client reports.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

  • BSc in Mathematics (numerate degree in relevant subject such as Economics or Physics also considered)
  • MSc or PhD in Mathematics, Transport Planning or Engineering is desirable
  • Experience using Python
  • Interest in transport economics and developing project management skills
  • Full, clean UK driving licence (ideally access to a vehicle)

Working Environment

  • This is a full-time role based in Leicester, requiring at least two days per week working with the team in the Leicester office.
