About The Team
Our London-based Marine & Aviation Reinsurance team writes a broad range of Marine, Energy and Aviation treaty reinsurance products for a global client base. We combine specialist underwriting expertise, advanced analytics and meaningful capacity to deliver innovative solutions and high-quality service to brokers and clients worldwide.
We are an established market participant with an ambitious outlook. Our underwriters are expected to bring an adaptable mindset, strong analytical capability, commercial judgement, entrepreneurial thinking and a collaborative approach.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a talented individual to join our London team. You will initially support the Marine, Energy and Aviation underwriting teams and, as your capability develops, take on increasing underwriting responsibility with the goal of underwriting autonomously within agreed authorities.
Success in the role will be demonstrated through technical excellence, sound portfolio judgement, responsive broker service, effective collaboration and a constructive willingness to challenge established thinking.
What You Will Be Doing
- Analyse and underwrite individual opportunities and the wider portfolio using available rating, exposure-management and modelling tools.
- Identify practical ways to improve underwriting tools, data quality and analytical processes.
- Provide proactive, timely day-to-day underwriting service to brokers and cedants.
- Support the Marine & Aviation team across a broad range of underwriting, portfolio-management and administrative responsibilities.
- Develop trusted relationships with brokers and clients, supporting the production of additional profitable business.
- Work closely with modelling, actuarial, claims and operations colleagues to deliver efficient and joined-up underwriting processes.
- Take ownership of selected relationships with external providers of aggregate-monitoring software.
- Maintain accurate underwriting records and contribute to portfolio monitoring, planning and reporting.

What We Are Looking For
You will be adaptable, analytical and commercially minded, with the initiative and energy to deliver results. You will be able to understand complex problems quickly, develop practical solutions and build rapport with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Capabilities
- Strong analytical and numerical capability, with attention to detail.
- A proactive, results-focused approach and the resilience to deliver in a demanding environment.
- Commercial awareness and an interest in negotiation, trading and profitable portfolio growth.
- Natural curiosity and a willingness to question assumptions and propose better approaches.
- Clear communication skills and the confidence to express a well-reasoned view.
- Ability to build and sustain effective relationships across teams and within the London broking community.
- Ability to adapt working style and priorities as the demands of the role change.
- Confidence working with data analytics platforms (e.g. Excel, SQL, Power BI).
- A collaborative, team-oriented approach and a commitment to high professional standards.
Desirable Experience And Qualifications
- Experience in marine or aviation insurance or reinsurance would be a benefit for candidates.
- Familiarity with underwriting, exposure management, catastrophe modelling or portfolio analytics.
- Mathematics, Statistics, Science or another numerate discipline at A level or above.
