Assistant Underwriter – Credit & Political Risk

London

An established global insurer is looking for an Assistant Underwriter to join its Credit & Political Risk team in London.

The team is expanding its Political Risk and Contract Frustration offering, giving you exposure to a varied portfolio and the opportunity to develop within a close-knit, experienced underwriting team. The vacancy follows an internal promotion, with a clear route for progression.

You will support new and renewal business, assist with risk assessment and due diligence, and build relationships with brokers and clients. As you develop, you will take responsibility for underwriting lower-complexity risks within your authority.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support underwriting through information gathering, due diligence, and renewal preparation.
  • Assess and underwrite lower-complexity business within agreed authority.
  • Coordinate enquiries and support client onboarding and compliance checks.
  • Maintain portfolio data and assist with pricing tools and reporting.
  • Attend client meetings and liaise with brokers on new and renewal business.
  • Contribute to projects that improve team processes and efficiency.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience within insurance or a relevant sector with transferable skills.
  • An interest in political, economic, and sovereign risks.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Confident communication and the ability to build positive working relationships.
  • A proactive, curious approach and willingness to learn.
