Role Overview
We are working with an established insurance organisation seeking an experienced Assistant Underwriter to join its Casualty underwriting team.
The role will support the Senior Underwriter in delivering a high-quality underwriting service across the Casualty book. You will play an important role in ensuring accurate and timely underwriting decisions, maintaining strong broker and stakeholder relationships, and operating within the requirements of the organisation's delegated underwriting authority.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced insurance professional looking to develop their underwriting career within a supportive and growing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA) and relevant underwriting parameters.
- Ensure underwriting activity remains within agreed authority and contractual requirements.
- Support the Senior Underwriter in delivering a high-quality service across the Casualty book.
- Maintain strong turnaround times and provide professional, proactive communication to brokers and key stakeholders.
- Understand and apply referral rules, escalating risks to the appropriate panel where required.
- Prepare and communicate referrals clearly and professionally.
- Monitor utilisation and performance across the Casualty line of business.
- Support Senior Underwriters and wider colleagues in maintaining a collaborative and positive team environment.
- Develop a strong understanding of the end-to-end underwriting process.
- Ensure compliance with internal processes, procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Provide support and guidance to Assistant Underwriters and Underwriting Assistants where appropriate.
- Contribute to wider business objectives and support other areas of the business when required.

About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- 5+ years' experience within the London Insurance Market.
- Previous experience working within a Lloyd's Coverholder or delegated underwriting environment.
- Experience as an Assistant Underwriter or in a similar underwriting position.
- Good understanding of underwriting processes, controls and referral requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good working knowledge of MS Outlook, Word and Excel. PowerPoint experience would be advantageous.
- A proactive approach with a genuine desire to develop your technical knowledge and underwriting career.
- The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a wider team.
Working Environment
The role operates on a hybrid basis, combining home working with time spent in the London office.
You will need to be self-motivated, organised and disciplined while also being a strong team player. The organisation places significant emphasis on collaboration, knowledge sharing and professional development.

Recruitment Process
Successful applicants will generally be invited to a one-hour first-stage interview with the Hiring Manager and selected members of the team, either virtually or in person.
The interview will explore your technical experience, key skills, underwriting knowledge and approach to teamwork, while giving you the opportunity to learn more about the role.
A second-stage interview may follow, depending on the position.
