AR Experts Ltd is a Manchester-based technology company developing SaaS platforms, AI solutions, hardware-integrated products, enterprise software, websites, and mobile applications. Our BizAlign ecosystem includes Telematics, Fleet, Workforce, HR, InsurTech, and Docs, alongside custom technology services for clients across various industries.
About the Role
We are looking for an Assistant Underwriter to support the development and operation of our commercial motor and fleet insurance proposition.
The successful applicant will assist with reviewing insurance submissions, gathering risk information, preparing quotations, maintaining accurate underwriting records, and supporting policy administration. The role will also involve working with brokers, clients, senior underwriters, capacity providers, and internal product and technology teams.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to develop a career in commercial insurance and gain experience within a growing technology-led InsurTech business. Structured training and guidance will be provided, but applicants should have a genuine interest in underwriting, commercial motor insurance, and the use of technology and data in assessing risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Support underwriters with the assessment of commercial motor and fleet insurance risks.
- Review proposal forms, statements of fact, claims histories, vehicle schedules, driver information, and other supporting documents.
- Gather any missing information required before a risk can be assessed or referred.
- Assist with preparing quotations, policy documents, renewal terms, and underwriting correspondence.
- Process new business, renewals, mid-term adjustments, cancellations, and other policy administration activities.
- Ensure each submission is complete, accurate, and properly documented.
- Identify information that falls outside agreed underwriting criteria and refer it to the appropriate senior underwriter.
- Maintain accurate underwriting notes, referral records, decisions, and supporting evidence.
- Communicate professionally with brokers, prospective clients, policyholders, and business partners.
- Respond to enquiries and provide clear updates on the progress of quotations and policy changes.
- Follow up on outstanding documents, additional information, quotations, and renewal invitations.
- Support the preparation of insurance schedules, endorsements, and supporting documentation.
- Assist with checking policy information before documents are issued.
- Work within agreed underwriting authority, referral procedures, and service-level expectations.
- Help ensure that insurance products are administered consistently and fairly.
Telematics and Data-Assisted Underwriting
- Support the use of telematics data when assessing commercial motor and fleet risks.
- Review relevant information such as mileage, journey patterns, speeding, harsh braking, acceleration, cornering, night-time driving, and driver-behaviour scores.
- Assist underwriters in interpreting vehicle usage, driver behavior, and fleet-risk information.
- Help identify unusual activity, missing information, or risk indicators requiring further review.
- Support the preparation of risk summaries and evidence for underwriting decisions.
- Work with the BizAlign Telematics and technical teams to understand available data, scoring methodologies, and system functionality.
- Ensure that telematics information is used accurately, appropriately, and in accordance with applicable procedures.
- Avoid making unapproved assumptions or promises based on incomplete data.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
