Job Purpose
The Assistant Underwriter will support the Professional Liability underwriting team in evaluating and selecting risks, contributing to the profitable growth of the portfolio. This role involves assisting in the underwriting process, conducting research, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist senior underwriters in the analysis and assessment of professional liability risks for various industries and professions.
- Gather and review relevant information, including applications, financial statements, loss runs, and other supporting documentation.
- Conduct research on specific industries, professions, and legal environments to inform underwriting decisions.
- Prepare underwriting submissions and proposals, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Collaborate with brokers and agents to obtain necessary information and communicate underwriting decisions.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in underwriting systems and databases.
- Support the renewal process by assisting with account review and analysis.
- Participate in special projects and initiatives as assigned by management.
- Adhere to company underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications, Capabilities and Experience
- Degree level or other equivalent qualification preferred.
- Demonstrable experience in insurance, preferably in underwriting support, claims, or a related analytical role.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical information clearly.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A keen interest in professional liability insurance and a desire to learn and grow within the underwriting field.
