The company: Pen Underwriting

Pen Underwriting acts as a multi-class, multi-territory Managing General Agent (MGA) that operates like a virtual insurance company. Pen Underwriting handles sales, distribution, pricing, product innovation, and claims management without acting as the actual financial risk carrier. Pen Underwriting connects parties between risk carriers (such as insurers and reinsurers) and policyholders or brokers. Pen Underwriting provides digital trading.

The role: Assistant Underwriter

The role supports the efficient, accurate and controlled underwriting of business within Pen's Smart Follow & Facility Underwriting division. Reporting to the Underwriting Lead, the Assistant Underwriter provides broker-facing underwriting support, acting as the initial point of contact for enquiries and referrals and supporting risks through quotation, binding and endorsement. Responsibilities include submission triage, underwriting administration, broker engagement, referral management and the accurate maintenance of underwriting records and documentation. The role is designed as an early-career opportunity to develop practical experience in Lloyd's delegated authority arrangements, facility underwriting and portfolio administration.

About You

  • Graduate calibre or with some experience in London Market underwriting, or comparable experience in insurance, financial services, operations or client service
  • Initial or current experience in Lloyd’s market, an MGA, insurer or broking business
  • Exposure to delegated authority, facilities or underwriting support
  • Familiarity with PPL, policy administration or underwriting systems
  • a quantitative or analytical background
  • Relevant insurance study or progress towards a professional qualification
