From £36,353, 10% annual bonus potential, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays rising with service and a company pension scheme with highly competitive contribution rates

Royal Mail is looking for an experienced Assistant Workshop Manager to support the leadership and performance of one of our Fleet Workshops. This is a key operational management role responsible for helping deliver safe, compliant and cost-effective fleet maintenance services while ensuring high levels of vehicle availability for the operation.

About The Role

Working closely with the Workshop Manager, you will help lead a busy workshop operation, ensuring maintenance activities are delivered efficiently, safely and in line with legal and operational requirements. You'll be responsible for supporting performance, developing people, driving continuous improvement and building strong relationships with operational stakeholders.

This role is ideal for someone who combines strong technical understanding with people leadership and is passionate about delivering operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of a safe and compliant workshop operation, ensuring adherence to legal and Royal Mail safety standards.
  • Drive workshop performance through effective resource planning, maintenance scheduling and cost management.
  • Lead, coach and develop workshop colleagues to improve capability, engagement and performance.
  • Ensure optimum vehicle availability to support operational requirements across the network.
  • Build effective relationships with operational stakeholders and act as a key point of contact for fleet-related issues.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain quality standards within the workshop environment.

About You

You are a people-focused leader with a strong technical background and a passion for operational performance. You enjoy developing teams, solving problems and working collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve results. You are confident making decisions, managing competing priorities and creating a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.

What You'll Bring

  • Experience within vehicle maintenance, fleet operations or a similar engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of vehicle compliance requirements and road transport legislation.
  • Strong leadership, coaching and performance management skills.
  • Ability to build effective stakeholder relationships and influence positive outcomes.
  • A recognised technical qualification such as NVQ Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent).
  • Full UK driving licence (C+E desirable).
