Job Title
Our client is a prestigious international law firm with one of the most widely recognised Private Client practices in the UK. They are seeking an Associate at 5–7 PQE to join the UK Private Client group in their Cheltenham office.
This is City-quality work based in the beautiful Cotswolds. The office of just over 100 people has a strong sense of community, while the firm's wider UK and international network means the work and clients you'll be exposed to are limitless. Core to the team's client base are investors and entrepreneurs, landed estates and heritage property, and professionals and senior executives. Some matters carry an international element, though international experience is not essential.
Working with a range of Partners, the Associate will advise UK clients on succession and tax planning, where the estates in question are often complex and of high value, developing broad experience alongside a more specialised expertise.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide practical and commercial legal advice to clients in a clear and succinct manner.
- Manage a substantial and varied workload efficiently and cost effectively, with supervision appropriate to your level of expertise.
- Draft more complex documents with minimum instruction and supervision, making use of appropriate precedents.
- Delegate, coordinate and supervise the work of more junior members of the team where appropriate.
- Actively participate in client marketing opportunities such as seminars, presentations and pitches, identifying and following through on client opportunities.
- Contribute to group knowledge and know-how initiatives.
- Comply with all relevant regulatory obligations, including the SRA Standards and Regulations.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
