We're looking for a Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE or MIStructE) ready to join us at Associate level and take the lead on some of the UK's most technically complex and high-risk infrastructure projects. This is a genuine succession opportunity: for the right candidate, this role carries a defined and supported pathway to Technical Director, with increasing exposure to strategic, commercial and business leadership from day one.
As an Associate, you will:
- Act as technical lead on major and high-risk civil/structural projects
- Oversee design teams and coordinate inputs across disciplines
- Contribute to strategic planning of project delivery, resources and client engagement
- Support bids, proposals and business development activity across sectors
- Take on formal leadership roles such as CRE (Contractor's Responsible Engineer)
- Develop and mentor engineers and technical staff

Your Route to Technical Director
We are planning for the future, and this role has been created with succession in mind. As you establish yourself, you will be progressively introduced to Director-level responsibilities, including:
- Ownership of technical governance, design assurance and engineering standards across the practice
- Commercial accountability, including project profitability, fee management and resource planning
- Leading major bids and shaping the strategic growth of the business
- Building and maintaining senior client relationships and representing the practice externally
- A structured development plan, sponsored by the current leadership team, with clear milestones towards Technical Director appointment
Requirements
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) with IStructE or ICE
- Strong background in infrastructure, energy, or rail projects
- Proven experience in team leadership, client-facing roles, and cross-discipline coordination
- Commercial awareness and ability to contribute to strategic growth initiatives
- Familiarity with BIM Level 2 workflows and ISO 19650 compliance is preferred

- Competitive basic salary: £60,000–£75,000, dependent on experience, with salary progression aligned to your development towards Technical Director
