Associate Counsellor / Psychotherapist (Neurodivergent Specialist Practice)

About Supportive Counselling Ltd

Supportive Counselling Ltd is an established counselling and psychotherapy practice based in York city centre, providing support to children, young people and adults both locally and nationally.

We specialise in neurodivergence and work in a fully neuro-affirming way with many autistic, ADHD and otherwise neurodivergent clients. We are passionate about creating therapy that is flexible, accessible and responsive to individual needs.

Alongside face-to-face counselling from our York office, we also offer online and telephone counselling across the UK.

As our practice continues to grow, we are looking for an Associate Counsellor or Psychotherapist who shares our values and passion for neuro-affirming therapy.

About the role

You will provide counselling and psychotherapy to a diverse client base, including:

  • Adults
  • Children and young people
  • Neurodivergent clients
  • Individuals experiencing anxiety, trauma, overwhelm, burnout and emotional regulation difficulties

We operate a hybrid service and Associates are expected to work flexibly across:

  • Face-to-face sessions in York
  • Online counselling
  • Telephone counselling

Please note that session format may occasionally change on the day depending on client needs and circumstances.

Evening availability is particularly important as demand is currently highest during these times.

Essential requirements

  • Diploma in Counselling or Psychotherapy (minimum Level 4)
  • Membership of a recognised professional body (BACP, NCPS, UKCP or equivalent)
  • Professional indemnity insurance
  • ICO registration
  • Experience working with neurodivergent clients
  • Strong understanding of ADHD and autism
  • Lived experience and understanding of neurodivergence
  • Neuro-affirming approach to practice
  • Willingness to work face-to-face, online and by telephone
  • Commitment to maintaining accurate records and working within established practice systems
  • Reliable evening availability
  • Enhanced DBS
