What You'll Do
Avalara makes tax compliance faster, easier, more accurate, and more reliable for 30,000+ business customers and their partners. Tax compliance is an unavoidable reality for every business operating across borders, and we exist to take it off their plate through technology, automation, and people who know what good looks like.
Most account management roles give you one territory, one book, one set of customers. This one gives you many.
As an Associate Account Manager at Avalara, you will work across a wide range of accounts, industries, and customer types. Every deployment brings a new book to manage, new relationships to build, and new commercial challenges to solve. If you are someone who gets bored doing the same thing every day, this role was built for you.
Here is how it works. When a Customer Account Manager is absent or a territory becomes vacant, you step in. You own those accounts, carry the targets, and keep the customer relationship running without missing a beat. It is the real job, with real accountability, from day one.
What Your Responsibilities Will Be
When deployed into a territory:
- Take ownership of a customer book and manage it as your own, with the same expectations and targets as any permanent Customer Account Manager
- Manage gross and net revenue retention and cross-sell against the pro-rated quota for the coverage period
- Build relationships quickly, keep deals moving, and make sure customers always feel like they have a dedicated person in their corner
- Hand the book back clean, with accurate records, up-to-date forecasts, and clear next steps documented
Between Deployments
- Work the caretaker pool, covering at-risk accounts, open cases, and contract processing
- Spot and progress cross-sell opportunities within unmanaged accounts
- Keep your product knowledge sharp and your Salesforce records clean so you are ready to deploy at short notice
What We Are Looking For
- Someone who genuinely puts the customer first. At Avalara, we talk about having the customer in the room. That means they are in your thinking before every call, in your decisions when something goes wrong, and in the way you hand an account back to its permanent owner. Not as a value on a wall, but as how you actually work
- Experience owning customer relationships commercially in account management, customer success, sales development, or a quota-carrying role
- A track record of hitting a number, whether that is renewal rate, revenue retention, upsell, cross-sell, meetings booked, or something similar
- Strong Salesforce skills, or the ability to get there fast, as keeping your records clean and accurate matters a lot in this role
- Comfortable managing several accounts at once and energized by the variety that brings
- Able to walk into a new set of accounts, get up to speed fast, and make customers feel like you have always been their person
- Someone who sees working across a wide range of customers and industries as one of the best parts of the job

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
