Our Team operates at the cutting edge of low-code technology, chiefly Power Platform, using a wide range of data and tools to support the strategic objectives of the department and to help solve some of the key challenges, whether that's ensuring HMRC collects the right taxes; pays out the right financial support; making it easier for our customers to get their taxes right; or supporting wider government economic aims.
Agile delivery enables projects to generate a range of data science products, including tailored interactive visuals, dashboards, applications, AI solutions, and impactful analysis and insight. Our interactive products drive operational decisions and aid our customers with their day-to-day processes, making real change within the organisation.
To develop and deliver these products the team primarily utilise the Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Bi, Co-Pilot Studio and AI Builder. The team have access to a range of ever-developing analytical tools that we are keen to investigate.
Job Description
This role sits at the heart of the Data Science Services Low/No Code team. The team uses low code/no code tools, primarily but not limited to Power Platform, to develop a range of interactive apps and data visualisations that are relied upon daily by thousands of colleagues across the department, delivering tangible, large-scale operational impact, while also pioneering the use of low-code AI tools to solve business problems, making this an exciting time to join.
On a day-to-day basis, you will work alongside data scientists, data engineers and IT professionals to design, develop and support Power Platform solutions. You will work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs, translate requirements into practical low-code solutions and deliver applications, automation and reporting products that improve processes, support decision making and deliver measurable business outcomes.
You will collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across HMRC to develop and enhance low-code solutions. You will work with data from a variety of sources, helping to design applications, automate business processes and create reporting solutions that meet user needs and support operational decision making.
- Designing and developing Power Apps solutions that support business processes and operational teams.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to understand requirements, demonstrate solutions and support successful product delivery.
- Building Power Automate workflows to automate manual activities and improve efficiency.
- Creating dashboards and reports using Power BI to support analysis and decision making.
- Working with a variety of data sources, including preparing, transforming and integrating data for use in applications, automation solutions and reporting.
- Investigating and adopting new Power Platform capabilities, including AI Builder and Copilot Studio, where they can add business value.
- Supporting and mentoring members of the wider citizen developer community and promoting good development practices.

Person Specification
An ideal candidate would be inquisitive, curious about data and keen to learn and develop. We are looking for someone who is aware of project delivery methods, ethical considerations as well as having knowledge of the technologies used. You’ll also be a good communicator, who is able to describe technical issues to non-technical stakeholders and conversely be able to understand and liaise with technical specialists.
We expect the candidate to have strong knowledge of Power Apps and Power Automate and be able to draw upon a range of examples demonstrating both their technical capability and their ability to deliver successful business outcomes.
Essential Criteria
Programming and Build (data science)
Develop and test solutions using Power Apps and Power Automate, including building applications, automating processes, implementing data-driven business logic, and collaborating on shared solutions using appropriate development practices.
Data Science Innovation
Seek out and research new techniques and capabilities within Power Platform to support learning and development. Ask questions to improve your knowledge and understanding of Power Platform development best practice. See possibilities for improvement, innovation and automation using Power Apps and Power Automate.
Delivering Business Impact
Collaborate to help identify user needs and develop and deliver data science products, using Power Apps and Power Automate. Communicate effectively and present analysis and visualisations tailored to your audience.
Desirable Criteria:
Knowledge of CoPilot Studio, AI Builder, CoPilot Agents would be an advantage.

Salary

Sift
Prior to applications being sifted candidates will be asked to complete an additional IKM assessment. Candidates will be sent details of the assessment once the advert has closed. This assessment is a pass or fail and only those who pass will be considered at the sift stage.

At full sift, your CV, Personal Statement and your Technical Skill statement will be assessed, with the successful candidates being invited to interview.

Interview
During the panel interview, you will be asked a behaviour-based question (Delivering at Pace) to explore in detail what you are capable of.
You will also be asked two Technical Skills questions as follows:
- Data Science Innovation – We will ask an appropriate question to assess your experience of developing and testing Power Apps and/or Power Automate solutions, including collaborative working and the application of development best practices.
- Delivering Business Impact - We will ask an appropriate question to assess your practical experience of using Power Apps and/or Power Automate to deliver business
