Main duties of the job
We're looking for an Associate Digital Project Manager to join our Digital Programmes team and help deliver digital change across University Hospital Southampton. This is an exciting opportunity to help improve services for patients and staff through the successful delivery of digital projects and initiatives. The role supports the planning and delivery of small digital projects while also contributing to larger programmes that drive transformation across the Trust.
Working with clinical, operational, and technical teams, you'll help coordinate project activities, manage plans, risks, and reporting, engage stakeholders, and support the implementation of new digital solutions. You'll gain exposure to the full project lifecycle, from early project development and feasibility through to delivery and benefits realisation, while contributing to the continuous improvement of our project management practices.
Reporting to a Digital Project Manager, you'll work closely with colleagues across the Digital team, clinical services, operational teams, third-party suppliers, and other stakeholders across the Trust. This role is ideal for someone who is organised, motivated, and keen to develop their project management career while making a tangible difference to healthcare services through digital innovation.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
As an Associate Digital Project Manager, you will:
- Lead the planning and delivery of small digital projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and deliver agreed benefits.
- Support larger digital programmes by coordinating project activities, maintaining plans, managing risks, and producing reports for stakeholders and governance groups.
- Work closely with clinical, operational, technical, and supplier teams to support the successful implementation of digital solutions.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of project management methodologies, standards, and documentation within the Digital Programme Management Office.
The Ideal Candidate Will Be Able To Demonstrate
- Experience of supporting or delivering projects through the full project lifecycle using recognised project management methodologies such as Agile or Waterfall.
- Strong organisational skills with experience of creating, maintaining, and reporting on project plans, risks, issues, and other project documentation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to present information clearly and work effectively with a wide range of people.
- A recognised project management qualification at foundation level, or equivalent knowledge and experience, together with a passion for digital transformation and continuous improvement.

Essential criteria
- Batchelor Degree or equivalent specialist knowledge and experience
- Project management knowledge to post graduate diploma level equivalent
- Recognised Project Management waterfall and agile qualification to foundation level.

Desirable criteria
- Relevant Batchelor Degree (Tech, Business, Change) or equivalent specialist knowledge and experience
- Higher Degree e.g., Masters or higher or equivalent specialist knowledge and experience
- Recognised Project Management qualification to practitioner level.
- Recognised other relevant change management qualifications e.g., relating to risk, benefits, change, testing, business analysis, or continuous improvement
- Other project and change management training courses
- Staff management training courses
- Evidence of recent further professional development
Previous or relevant experience necessary
Essential criteria
- Good knowledge and practical experience of the management and successful delivery of full project lifecycle (including pre-project phases) of small projects.
- Good knowledge and practical experience of providing project management support on large digital programmes and projects.
- Some experience of presenting complex and technical information to internal and external groups.
Desirable criteria
- Management and successful delivery of full project lifecycle of small and very small change projects (including pre-project phases) in an Acute NHS Trust, a provider NHS (non-acute) or the NHS.
- Some practical experience of managing and delivering change projects with third party suppliers, including procurement, supplier management including negotiating and agreeing commercial and contract terms, SLAs, and KPIs.

- Project management skills including use of multiple methodologies e.g., waterfall and agile.
- Good knowledge of the creation, review, update, and reporting of standard project artefacts.
- Some knowledge of how to analyse complex technical information relating to programmes and present to a variety of audiences.
- Some knowledge of how to identify, source, assimilate, and apply relevant (clinical, system, setting) specific and technical knowledge.
- Some knowledge of how to identify complex project risks and issues and develop detailed mitigation strategies.
- Intellectual flexibility to adjust own’s perspective, embrace feedback, and learn from experiences.
- Some knowledge of Information Governance (IG) compliance and Digital Technology compliance and guidance.
