Associate Director – Life Science & Healthcare

£70,000+ | Epsom | Permanent

About the Company

We are working with a well-established architectural practice with a strong track record across Life Science, Healthcare and large-scale commercial projects. They are now looking to appoint an experienced Associate Director to join the existing management team, with a clear pathway towards Partner status. This is a genuine opportunity to take on a senior leadership position, helping shape the future growth of the practice while continuing to lead projects, teams and client relationships. The role will have a strong commercial and business development focus, working with an established client base while bringing your own experience, relationships and network to help identify and win new opportunities.

About the Role

As Associate Director, you will play a key role within the management team, with responsibility across project delivery, people, clients, commercial performance and business development.

You will be involved in:

  • Leading projects from concept through to completion.
  • Managing programmes, budgets, resources and delivery.
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary teams and external consultants.
  • Developing and maintaining client relationships.
  • Overseeing design, planning and technical delivery.
  • Managing fees, invoicing, cash flow and project financial performance.
  • Leading, mentoring and developing architectural teams.
  • Supporting recruitment and resource planning.
  • Contributing to bids, tenders and business development.
  • Developing existing client relationships and identifying new opportunities.
  • Supporting the wider management team with the strategic growth of the practice.

About You

We are looking for an experienced architectural professional ready to take the next step into senior management, leadership and business development. Life Science and/or Healthcare experience would be beneficial but is not essential. Candidates with a strong background in large-scale commercial projects will also be considered, particularly those with proven project leadership, client management and commercial experience.

You will ideally have:

  • ARB registration and a recognised UK architectural qualification.
  • Significant post-qualification experience within UK architectural practice.
  • A strong track record of successful project delivery.
  • Experience managing programmes, budgets, resources and project teams.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including fees and project financial management.
  • Experience leading, mentoring and developing teams.
  • Experience in business development and winning new work.
  • Strong client-facing and communication skills.
  • An established professional network and confidence developing new relationships.
  • A good understanding of health and safety and HR responsibilities.
  • Strong design and technical knowledge.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • A proactive, commercially minded and collaborative approach.
